Energy attribute certificates
Renewable Energy Procurement & Carbon Offsetting, Guidance for net zero carbon buildings, published by the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) in March 2021, defines energy attribute certificates as: ‘A category of contractual instruments used in the energy market to convey information about the energy generation to other entities involved in the sale, distribution, consumption or regulation of electricity – for example, in the UK REGO certificates are used to convey to consumers the proportion of electricity that suppliers source from renewable generation. The energy attribute certificates can be sold or purchased separately, i.e., unbundled, to the power itself.’
